Out of your mind and expiring A day at a time; faulty wiring You're wearing the chills; it's the sleeping pills And lockbox bills, and emergency drills Man, the urgency kills Ever more The scars are under our skin Buried within forever more Company man working over time To fashion a fan out of a sovereign swine Who paces alone in his hilltop home You'll drown in the drone of the corporate tone And the housing loans Ever more The scars are under our skin Buried within forever more

They once played in the hills With few toys, or fickle frills Just their sisters and themselves Honest hours, and blue farewells Engine fell to a purr Years on end, no news of her Rumor came of her return Sweetest song he could have heard Nightingale lying in the swale Leery of a woeful tale Song he knows; been in it's hold Spirit young, with a heart grown old Knitting in her rocking chair He alone dreams of her there Lost an old, familiar friend Slow to take that chance again

He packed his pipe and hit the road Left her to her episode Made his way to the old diner And rued as his soup went cold An hour later, he drove on Mileage to train his mind upon He failed to notice as his speed crept up And shortly, the siren rolled Name, license and registration You give me a name, or it's down to the station Enough hesitation He gave an alias and said He'd left his license by the bed The sheriff went to check the system And fell with a blow to the head Panic coursing through his veins The man sped away down the wrong lane He turned his head toward the setting sun Just as his sentence came No name, license, or registration Quite clear that he came from a border nation Swift deportation

You came home early in the fall Dreams abound; unsure of them all My heart warmed when I saw your face You're the same dear girl, emanating grace Dear girl Tell to me the story in your eyes Darling girl, virtuous and wise There's no thing rather I would do Than to learn of all the fairy tales in you I'm aware someone already holds your hand I'm sorry to conflict you, but I've kept quiet long as I can Dance with me in your mother's shawl Through the night, past the curtain call If not now, then in time to come You are worth the wait much as anyone
5.
Heaven may call; people fall when they fall No slipping by; futile to try Likely, you're right; resisting the human plight Biding my days in doldrum ways Forward, you bum; the time is come Whether cake or crumb Pass me the rum; rum pum pum pum Less numb than some Destiny looms deep in destiny brumes It scares me still; stifles my will So it has been, and will be in the end Either you fold, or break the hold Forward, you bum; the the time is come Whether cake or crumb Pass me the rum; rum pum pum pum Less numb than some Heaven may call Why wait on heaven's call?

Overwhelmed 05:48
There are holes in the stairs, so no guarantees We often fall down, back to the neon lobbies Where we start up again, single-filing The joy of the thing; the joy in being Overwhelmed; oh, well There are holes in our stares; we don vacant expressions They lure each of us into complacent oppression And the information keeps on piling Oh, the joy of the thing; the joy in being Overwhelmed; oh, well Name your price; I'm not gonna bite You can push me if you wanna A plague on both your karma and soul Enveloped in your pride And I can't say that I blame you A mold of those who shaped you, I know But there's plenty to go around If we each take the same portion And keep things in proportion But no, you want it to yourself Hello! You can't have it to yourself anymore More and more and more and more... Overwhelmed; oh, well

Sparrow at my window Help yourself to a warm bath I'll howl while the wind blows But a whisper in it's path I'm not filled with sorrow Like the lump I used to be Methods you can borrow Set them caustic demons free Arrow in the wind could pierce a neighbor's heart Arrow in the sun, impossible to chart Arrow on a rose from north will never stray Arrow in the quiver keeps the maladies at bay
8.
Miles from the road, quiet and overgrown I'm feeling old, the truth be told A garden and a well; a guitar and a spell Sown into the ground; no wires around I dreamt of my own little backwoods home Worn and old You really ought to come; we'll picnic in the sun And huff on the air; wind in our hair We'll own each of our days, and spend them in the ways We see fit always; what do you say? I dreamt of our own little backwoods home Worn and old

about

Faulty Wiring was recorded, mixed & mastered at Andrija Tokic's Bomb Shelter Studio in East Nashville, TN. Andrija was the project's master facilitator, enabling us to make a lush recording without much time or financing. The meat & potatoes were tracked live to tape December 12th through the 18th, with a few days of overdubs & mixing in late December/early January 2011. True to the nature of old records, this is a snapshot of a particular point in time. Everyone involved was winging it completely. Over half of the funding for Faulty Wiring was generated through the generosity of 60+ pledgers. I cannot thank them enough for helping me make this dream a reality.

Apart from mastering, Faulty Wiring was an entirely analogue endeavor. While largely self-produced, I must extend production credits to Jamie Dick (for introducing me to Jon Estes), Andrija Tokic (for getting David Grant on board & helping so much with tone-crafting), Kai Welch (for introducing me to Andrija in the first place), Abigail Washburn (the biggest link in the chain, responsible for our collective awareness of Jon Estes and Rob Hecht) &, lastly, Rob Hecht (who inadvertently brought Odessa Jorgensen to my attention). I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved for bringing so much to the table with so little to offer on my part. Let's just say that Faulty Wiring was produced by me, Andrija Tokic & all involved parties. Lastly, I should mention my friend Carey Ott, who brought me & cousin Kai to Nashville in the first place. All of these connections would be improbable without him.

Andrija & I mixed in tandem, while Andrija alone mastered the project after I'd returned to Wisconsin. The digital album cover was created by my friend Jeremy "Guzzo" Pinc.
